HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methyl methacrylate (MMA) exports were down by 33% for March from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.

Exports fell to 10,581 tonnes in March from 15,886 tonnes in March 2012.

Belgium took 3,194 tonnes for the month, more than twice the volume shipped to Mexico, which received 1,481 tonnes. China and Canada were the next-largest recipients, taking 1,300 and 1,242 tonnes, respectively.

MMA demand has remained healthy in the US, but supply has been compromised by upstream constraints from reduced production of phenol and acetone, sources said.

March imports were up sharply, however, to 2,356 tonnes from 864 tonnes one year ago.

Major US producers of MMA include Dow Chemical, Evonik and Lucite.
