Japan's production of plastic feedstocks increases 3.1%

TOKYO (ICIS)--Japan’s production of plastic feedstocks increased by 3.1% year on year to 796,100 tonnes in March, official data from the Japan Plastics Industry Federation (JPIF) showed on Wednesday.

Production of polyethylene (PE) rose by 18% to 218,466 tonnes from the same time the previous year, while output of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) increased by 25% to 17,227 tonnes, according to the federation.

The country’s production of plastic products fell by 2.5% year on year to 467,400 tonnes in March from the same time a year earlier, the data showed.

Production of synthetic leather decreased by 12% year on year to 4,075 tonnes in March, while output of film and sheets rose by 0.2% to 204,850 tonnes, based on the data.
