TAIPEI (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) is currently operating its 250,000 tonne/year n-butanol (NBA) plant at Mailiao at full rates, a company source said on Thursday.

The company achieved full operating rates in mid-to-end April, the source said.

FPC plans to maintain run rates at such levels throughout 2013, the source added.

“Demand is expected to pick up in the near term as end-users’ inventories are currently low,” the source said.

The majority of market participants are adopting a cautious stance, waiting for a clearer price direction with the restart of Sinopec Qilu’s 85,000 tonne/year NBA unit in early May.

The prices of NBA fell by $10/tonne (€7.60/tonne)  at the high end of the range to $1,400-1,545/tonne CFR (cost & freight) NE (northeast) Asia, compared to the previous week, according to ICIS data.
