SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Beiyuan Chemical Industry Group is planning to shut its 880,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Shaanxi province on 10 May for two weeks of maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.
The company has cut the plant’s operating rate to around 16% of capacity from 40% on 5 May, the source said,
Local prices of liquid caustic soda are not expected to rise following the shutdown of the chlor-alkali plant, because the stocks held by the downstream manufacturers is enough for this month, a local market player said.
Shaanxi Beiyuan Chemical Industry Group is the largest caustic soda producer in Shaanxi province.
