MOSCOW (ICIS)--The Russian authorities are investigating a chemical leak following a railway accident on Thursday in the Rostov region.

The Russian regional investigation committee launched a criminal probe into the accident at Belaya Kalitva railway station, the committee said in a statement.

Following the accident and the leak of methylene chloride, 27 people sought medical assistance, of whom 13 were hospitalised, according to the statement.

The committee said the leak followed the railway accident and an explosion that damaged a nearby six-storey residential building.
