SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corp (FCFC) has restarted its No 1 and No 2 aromatics unit in Mailiao, company sources said on Wednesday.
The facility was brought back on line on 12 May.
“The facility is still in progress to run full operations,” he said.
Another company source said: “We target to have on-spec PX material by this week.”
FCFC has also restarted its No 2 aromatics unit at the same stie on 13 May after a brief shutdown.
The company shut the No 2 aromatics unit facility after a fire incident at the Mailiao site for safety checks and inspections.
The No 2 aromatics unit is able to produce 580,000 tonnes/year of PX, 100,000 tonnes/year of isomer xylenes, and 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene.
The unit has already achieved on-spec production at its PX and benzene line, but output is currently limited, the source said.
FCFC plans to ramp production to 100% capacity in the near term, the source added without elaborating on current rates.
“Due to the shutdown, loss of production from the benzene unit is estimated to be around 10,000-12,000 tonnes,” another source added.
FCFC’s No 3 aromatics facility, which has a nameplate capacity of 870,000 tonnes/year of PX, 100,000 tonnes/year of isomer xylenes, and 470,000 tonnes/year of benzene, is running at 100%, he added.
