SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corp (TPCC) plans to cap its phenol/acetone plant at Kaohsiung at 80-85% capacity in May because of unfavourable margins, a source close to the company said on Wednesday.
The plant, with a phenol nameplate capacity of 360,000 tonnes/year and an acetone nameplate capacity of 220,000 tonnes/year, was running at 100% capacity in the first half of March but reduced to 80% capacity in the second half of that month in response to weak market conditions, the source said.
The plant’s operating rate is expected to be capped at 80-85% capacity throughout May because of persistently weak margins on phenol, the source said.
