SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s UPC Technology started production at its 30,000 tonne/year maleic anhydride (MA) plant, after it was relocated to Zhuhai in China’s Guangdong province, a company source said on Friday.
UPC decided to relocate the MA plant to China so that the facility can be integrated with its downstream unsaturated polyester resin plant at the site.
The plant’s operating rate is below 30% capacity amid ongoing test runs, and production is only for molten material at the moment, the source said.
Solid material is expected to be produced from June, the source added.
Product quality from the plant is said to be on-specifications, although the company is still working on increasing the run rates, the source said.
