Grab an oar and ride the currents - ChemEdge 2013 will get you through the rapids

Ever feel like a salmon swimming upstream? Some say that the expression "to swim upstream" means to go against the prevailing opinion. But when I think of this expression or even when I watch images of salmon working so hard to get to their place of birth, without getting eaten by a bear, I see it as an enormous amount of effort. Yet, the salmon do it naturally. They don't fight it, they embrace it.

 NACD can help you through the torrent of regulation and embrace your inner salmon

Recently, I've heard several members of the Association talking about keeping pace with the ever-increasing regulatory environment as 'swimming upstream'. There is no break in the current. Many are receiving visits from an increasing number of inspectors, and from many agencies too. We all recognize that compliance is a major part of our job, and we do the best we can to learn and implement every aspect that applies to our operations. The biggest fear, however, is: "I don't know what I'm up against." So, what can you (or your team) do to embrace your inner salmon?

My husband and sons are avid kayakers. One thing I've learned from them is that you don't fight the current; you learn to understand it, see it, and navigate it so you don't flip over. And if you do, you know how to right the boat quickly so you don't bang your head on the rocks below.

NACD's ChemEdge is a conference dedicated to helping companies in the business of chemical distribution with knowledge, understanding, and tools to navigate many areas of our industry, most specifically regulatory compliance and Responsible Distributione_SRTm implementation. The program also looks to improve the skills, resources and network of our members and attendees through sessions on other topics like negotiation skills, increasing your purchasing power, emergency response, benchmarking tools and even customer service techniques and best practices to name a few.

Sometimes the best way to navigate uncharted waters is to learn from others who have navigated that river before. By sending your team to ChemEdge (August 20-23), you will enable them to improve your operations, advance your compliance programs, and interact with peers who they can call upon to lend a hand/advice when needed.

PAST ATTENDEES HAVE SAID:

"This was the first time I attended and it was a great experience. I gained knowledge and ideas to bring back and met many wonderful people";

"Speakers are well informed, give practical advice and do an excellent job fielding questions"; and

"I loved the best practice sharing. I got a lot of feedback/advice from other people in the business that can be used in ours."

This year I hope you will sign your team up to participate in ChemEdge 2013 Conference and Trade Show on August 20-23, in conjunction with the Responsible Distributione_SRTm Workshop on August 20-21, in Dallas, Texas. In doing so, you will award your team with the resources and tools they need to help navigate your company through those rough waters and stay upright along the way.
