LONDON (ICIS)--The EU imported 43% more soda ash from the rest of the world in January 2013 than in January 2012, trade data from statistics agency Eurostat showed on Friday.

Exports to the rest of the world fell by 7% over the same period.

In February, soda ash imports from the rest of the world to the EU fell by 2% year on year, and exports were also down by 15%.

On a month-by-month basis, imports were up 13% in February 2013 compared with January 2013, while exports dropped by 21%.

The European soda ash market is long, and demand from the downstream float glass, container glass and textile industries is weak.
