NEW YORK (ICIS)--BASF has begun a planned maintenance turnaround of its ethylene oxide (EO) unit, a BASF official confirmed on Friday.
The turnaround is expected to last for 20-30 days, the official said.
On 13 May, the unit had a minor release of EO into the atmosphere because of a steam failure caused by equipment problems. The facility remained operational and did not shut down during the incident.
BASF’s Geismar facility has an EO capacity of 220,000 tonnes/year.
