SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical shut its 350,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone unit at Binhai in Tianjin on 18 May because of a technical glitch, a source close to the company said on Monday.

The plant will resume production on 25 May, the source said.

Phenol spot prices have been under downward pressure from weak demand and ample availability and the outage is expected to lend support to spot discussions, market players said.

The facility is the largest phenol/acetone unit in China.
