HOUSTON (ICIS)--Mitsui and Idemitsu Kosan chose Freeport, Texas, as the site for its 330,000 tonne/year alpha olefins plant, according to an air-permit application obtained on Tuesday.
The two companies plan to build the plant under the joint venture, the Alpha Olefin Chemical Company (AOCC) on land owned by Dow Chemical, according to the permit.
Construction should start in the second quarter of 2014, and the plant should start operations in the second half of 2016, the permit said.
Dow Chemical intends to supply the joint venture with ethylene. In return, the joint venture will supply Dow's Performance Plastics division with the resulting alpha olefins, which the company will use to make polyethylene (PE) and various elastomers.
The product lines include DOWLEX, ELITE, NORDEL, AFFINITY and ENGAGE.
