SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sanfangxiang Group expects to add an additional 300,000 tonne/year of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) production capacity to its existing 1.2m tonne/year PTA unit during an upcoming turnaround, a company source said on Friday.
The unit at Jiangyin in Jiangsu province will be shut in early June for around 20 days for debottlenecking work, the source said.
The shutdown schedule has been postponed from initial plan in late April because of healthy demand from the downstream polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle chip sector and improved PTA margins, the source said.
“The extra [PTA] supply is for captive use,” the source added.
The company is looking to put a new 400,000 tonne/year PET bottle chip plant at Jiangyin in Jiangsu province into operation in the third quarter of the year, the source added.
