SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Technip has been awarded a contract by Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Co (Takreer) for a new coke calcination unit at Ruwais in the United Arab Emirates, the French engineering firm said on Tuesday.

The contract will cover technology and engineering services as well as the supply of core equipment for the new unit, which is part of a carbon black and delayed coker project being implemented adjacent to Takreer’s existing Ruwais refinery, it said in a statement.

Technip's operating center in Dusseldorf, Germany will execute the contract, which is slated to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2015, the company said.

The new calcination unit will consist of two trains and is designed to process 700,000 tonnes/year of superior-quality anode green petroleum coke, it added.

The processed coke from the facility will be used as anode coke for Abu Dhabi's growing aluminium industry, according to Technip.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
