HOUSTON (ICIS)--US industrial gas producer Air Products said on Tuesday that its South American joint venture Indura is investing over $15m (€11.6m) in Chile to build a new plant in Antofagasta and expand capacity in Graneros.
“These new investments will meet the increasing demand for industrial gases in the northern and central regions of Chile, driven largely by the mining, metal fabrication and food industries,” Air Products said.
The Antofagasta plant will produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Capacity was not provided.
The new plant and expansion projects follow October’s opening of the 84m tonne/year plant in Puerto Varas, which produces liquid nitrogen, oxygen and argon.
Air Products purchased a 67% majority stake in Indura in June 2012.
