SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec SABIC Tianjin Petrochemical plans to shut its 300,000 tonne/year high density polyethylene (HDPE) plant in Tianjin city in early June for regular maintenance, a company source said on Thursday.

The shutdown will last for 10 days, the source added.

Chinese domestic HDPE prices would be boosted by the plant’s turnaround because of its large capacity, some market players said.

However, others felt that the impact on the domestic market would be minimal, because a 10-day shutdown is considered short and demand for HDPE typically slows down in summer.
