SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jinxi Petrochemical, a subsidiary of PetroChina, is planning to bring on stream an 80,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) unit at Jinxi in Liaoning province this October, a company source said on Thursday.
Upon the start-up of the unit, the company will reserve most of its MTBE output for captive consumption, according to the source.
“The plant is one of the supporting units for the gasoline upgrade project to help increase octane level,” said the source.
Currently, the company is running a 40,000 tonne/year MTBE unit at the same site, and all of its output is for captive use.
Jinxi Petrochemical is scheduled to shut all of its units for one and a half months of maintenance in early September, according to another source in the company.
The company has two crude distillation units with a capacity of 3m tonnes/year and 4m tonnes/year, respectively.
