SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) plans to shut its 98,000 tonne/year methyl methacrylate (MMA) plant in Mailiao on 25-26 June for maintenance, a company source said on Friday.
The acetone cyanohydrin-based MMA plant will be shut for 7-10 days, the source said, adding that the planned turnaround is unlikely to have an impact on the market as the producer has been building up its MMA inventory in preparation for the shutdown.
Furthermore, demand is weak so the resultant reduction in supply is not expected to have a big impact on the spot market, said a market source.
MMA is used in the production of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), artificial marble, cast sheets and acrylic resins for coatings and emulsions.
