Japan's naphtha imports for ethylene rise 12% in May

TOKYO (ICIS)-- Japan’s imports of naphtha for ethylene production increased by 12% to 1.20m tonnes in May from the previous month, official data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) showed on Thursday.

Total naphtha imports for the petrochemical sector rose by 6.7% month on month to $1.11bn (€0.83bn) in May, according to the ministry.

The average price of naphtha was $921.90/tonne, down by 5.9% from the previous month, the data showed.
