LONDON (ICIS)--Sasol is planning a six-week shutdown at its ethylene oxide (EO) and ethylene glycol (EG) site in Marl, Germany, from 6 September to 18 October, a company source said on Friday.

It will be a mandatory shutdown that occurs every five years, the source said.

Sasol's site in Marl has the capacity to produce 215,000 tonnes/year of EO and 15,000 tonnes/year of the by-product EG.

INEOS Oxide is due for a three-week catalyst change from the end of June at its 250,000 tonne/year EO and 15,000 tonne/year site in Lavera, France.

Meanwhile, Germany-based BASF is scheduled to go down for six weeks in August/September at its 345,000 tonne/year EO and 25,000 tonne/year EG site in Ludwigshafen.

European EO/EG producers include Shell, INEOS Oxide, BASF, Clariant, Sasol, Dow Chemical, IQA, PKN Orlen and AkzoNobel.
