HOUSTON (ICIS)--US biochemical producer Gevo has resumed commercial production of isobutanol at its Luverne, Minnesota, plant in single train mode, the company announced on Tuesday.

The Luverne plant had suffered from microbial contamination that Gevo has since learned how to control and manage, CEO Patrick Gruber said in a news release.

While currently only operating one train, the company plans to bring more on line in the third and fourth quarters of this year and ramping up production through 2014, Gruber said.

Gevo sells isobutanol for use in specialty chemicals, as a blendstock in fuels and as a building block to make jet fuel and chemical products such as paraxylene (PX) for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production.
