HOUSTON (ICIS)--Shintech plans to invest $500m (€375m) to further expand its capacities in Louisiana, parent company Shin-Etsu said on Wednesday.
Shintech's planned production capacity increases will be for about 200,000 tonnes/year of caustic soda, 300,000 tonnes/year of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), and 300,000 tonnes/year of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), Japan-based Shin-Etsu said.
The expansion project is expected to be completed in 2015.
“With this expansion, Shintech’s total PVC production capacity will become 2.95m tonnes/year – combining the capacities of Shintech’s existing manufacturing facilities in Louisiana and Texas,” Shin-Estu said in a brief statement.
The expansion would help meet growing worldwide demand for PVC, it added.
