LONDON (ICIS)--EU imports of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) dropped by 16% year on year in March, according to data published by statistics agency Eurostat this week.

Asian suppliers are a continued presence in the European market – particularly suppliers from South Korea, which can take advantage of the Free Trade Agreement between South Korea and the EU.

March exports of ABS from the EU have increased by 1.4% year on year. Some European producers are sending increasing volumes of ABS to the Turkish market because of fierce competition in the country from South Korean producers.

This follows the Free Trade Agreement between Turkey and South Korea, which came into effect on 1 May 2013. Asian producers currently hold 70% of Turkish ABS market share, market sources said.
