SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s ethylene output for May increased by 5.2% year on year to 1.33m tonnes, according to data released by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association (CPCIA) on Tuesday

Higher production was mainly attributed to new capacities that came on stream this year, industry sources said, with the country’s ethylene capacity expected to register a 21% growth for the whole of 2013 to 20.7m tonnes.

China’s production of benzene also increased, registering a 6.1% year-on-year rise to 625,000 tonnes.

Its polyethylene output increased by 9.2% to 905.000 tonnes in May, while its polypropylene (PP) improved 18.8% to 1.08m tonnes, according to CPLP.

China's crude oil output was up 3.8% to 17.7m tonnes in May, the data showed.
