Russia monomers, polymers output higher in May and Jan-May period

MOSCOW (ICIS)--Russia's overall production of monomers and polymers increased year on year in May and was also higher in the January-May period, official data showed on Tuesday.

In May 2013, the country's total output of ethylene was up by 18.6% year on year at 232,000 tonnes, while propylene production was 22.7% higher at 118,000 tonnes, Russia’s statistics agency Rosstat said.

The country's total output of polyethylene (PE) was up by 28.9% at 157,000 tonnes, and polypropylene (PP) production rose by 15.8% at 73,100 tonnes, all on a year on year basis (as are all the following figures).

Russia's total production of styrene in May was up by 18.5% at 53,900 tonnes, while polystyrene (PS) output was 29.5% up at 41,100 tonnes, according to Rosstat.

In the same month polyvinyl chloride (PVC) production was up by 10.1% at 58,300 tonnes, the agency said. Phenol output was 2.2% higher at 20,700 tonnes, it said.

In the January-May period this year, the country's total ethylene output was 19.7% up at 1.15m tonnes, while propylene production was 18.5% higher at 548,700 tonnes, according to Rosstat.

PE output was up by 25.3% at 764,000 tonnes and PP production was up by 26.1% at 333,800 tonnes.

Total production of styrene was up by 20.3% at 271,200 tonnes, while PS output was 31.7% at 186,600 tonnes.

PVC production rose by 3.1% at 285,900 tonnes, the agency said, while phenol output was 20.7% up at 119,500 tonnes.
