LONDON (ICIS)--Tessenderlo’s planned restructuring of its production site at Ham in Belgium may lead to 170 job cuts, the Belgium-based chemicals firm said on Wednesday.

Tessenderlo said that it aims to maintain the Ham site’s leading position in the potassium sulphate market, but “that will require an in-depth change of the current production and sales organisations.”

The potassium sulphate market remains attractive and continues to grow, it added.

Tessenderlo had announced previously that it would end production at its phosphate unit at Ham at the end of 2013, mainly for environmental reasons. The company employs more than 500 workers at Ham.
