US gasoline inventories gain 1.7%, consumption up 0.6%

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US gasoline consumption rates and inventories increased for the week ended 21 June, a government agency said on Wednesday.

Finished motor gasoline consumption rates for the week ended 21 June were at 8.894m bbl/day, an increase of 54,000 bbl/day from the previous week , according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA).

For the same week, gasoline inventories increased by 3.7m bbl to 225.4m bbl, a 1.7% week-on-week gain, the EIA said.

Analysts had predicted a gain of 500,000 bbl in gasoline inventories.

Meanwhile, production rates were just 10,000 bbl/day higher at 9.177m bbl/day, while refinery utilisation rates gained 0.9 percentage points to reach 90.2% for the week ended 21 June.

Finished gasoline refers to the stage in the supply chain at which it reaches primary sources, such as blenders and terminals, before delivery to retail stations.
