LONDON (ICIS)--US-based Huntsman on Tuesday lifted force majeure on standard crude methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) and associated crude MDI variants from its Rozenburg site in the Netherlands following improved operations and stock levels, a company source said.
“The [MDI] plants have been running at 100% for several weeks now, said the company source.”
Huntsman’s force majeure on pure MDI and pure MDI-based variants from the site, however, remains in place for the time being.
This is because of the need for some ongoing stock replenishment for pure MDI, the source said, adding that it expects the remaining force majeure to be lifted shortly.
The force majeure on pure MDI and pure MDI-based variants came into effect in the second half of April and was linked to limitations in their supply chain.
The latter had delayed the restart of the Dutch MDI facilities from a planned turnaround, which took place in March and April.
Huntsman’s two MDI units at Rozenburg came back online in early May and were running steadily, following the resolution of upstream and downstream limitations.
However, a technical difficulty affected output at one of the units temporarily at the end of May and this, along with already low stock levels necessitated Huntsman to extend the existing force majeure to standard MDI grade and associated variants on 7 June.
The nameplate capacity for MDI at the Rozenburg site is 400,000 tonnes/year.
