HOUSTON (ICIS)--US May styrene exports and imports were mixed from the same time a year ago, according to data made available on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
May US styrene exports were at 131,654 tonnes, down by 24% from 173,554 tonnes in May of 2012. The top three destinations for US styrene were Mexico, China and Brazil.
Meanwhile, May 2013 styrene imports were at 57,748 tonnes, up by 70% from 33,979 tonnes a year earlier.
Canada and China were the only two counties the US received imports from, with Canada importing 57,733 tonnes and China importing 14 tonnes.
Canada is typically the only country to import styrene because of its proximity to the US.
Major US styrene producers include Americas Styrenics, Styrolution, LyondellBasell, Total and Westlake.
