HOUSTON (ICIS)—US May exports of methyl methacrylate (MMA) fell by 16% year on year, according to data released on Monday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
US May exports of MMA totaled 6,457 tonnes compared with 7,728 tonnes a year ago.
Month on month, May exports fell by 21% from 8,207 tonnes in April.
Most of the decline in volumes is being driven by softer-than-expected demand, especially in the coatings market.
On the import side, May MMA volumes fell to 79 tonnes from 2,453 tonnes a year ago and 629 tonnes in April.
Buying interest in spot material remains soft, sources said.
Major US MMA producers include Arkema, Dow Chemical, Evonik and Lucite.
