HOUSTON (ICIS)--US polyvinyl chloride (PVC) exports 12% in May over the same month a year earlier, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data released on Monday.
US producers shipped 263,350 tonnes of PVC in May, compared with 235,735 tonnes in May 2012, the ITC said.
May’s figure was also 17% higher than the 224,222 tonnes of PVC shipped in April.
Year to date, the US has exported 1,260,393 tonnes of PVC, 12% more thn the 1,124,580 tonnes shipped during the same period of 2012.
Canada was the top destination for US PVC in May at 35,010 tonnes. It was followed by Turkey (24,654 tonnes), Russia (23,930 tonnes) and Mexico (22,963 tonnes).
Meanwhile, imports of PVC into the US in May were 20,909, slightly higher than the 20,589 tonnes received in May 2012.
Canada was the top supplier of PVC to the US at 15,099 tonnes, followed by Germany (1,410 tonnes), Colombia (1,366 tonnes) and Mexico (935 tonnes).
Major US PVC producers include Axiall, Westlake, Occidental Chemical, Formosa, and Shintech.
