HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of expandable polystyrene (EPS) for May were down by 14% from the same month in 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
US EPS exports fell to 6,450 tonnes in May 2013 from 7,462 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
Mexico, Canada and Hong Kong were the top destinations for US exports, with Mexico and Canada taking less material than in 2012 and Hong Kong taking slightly more.
US EPS imports rose by 11% in May to 15,474 tonnes, up from 13,958 tonnes in 2012.
The Bahamas, Canada and Korea were the top importers into the US.
Major North American EPS producers are BASF, Nova Chemicals, Flint Hills Resources, Styrochem and Nexkemia.
