HOUSTON (ICIS)--US refiner Valero has begun the start-up procedures on the new hydrocracking unit at its St Charles refinery in Louisiana, a company spokesperson said on Wednesday.
“These procedures will progress over the next several days,” said Valero’s Bill Day.
The unit at the 205,000 bbl/day refinery in Norco, Louisiana, makes distillates and gasoline and was built to take advantage of higher crude prices, stronger diesel margins and cheap natural gas.
According to Day, the construction was completed by the end of June, which is in line with the company’s projections from its first-quarter earnings call in April.
