HOUSTON (ICIS)--Robert E. Jones has retired as CEO of Mississippi Phosphates and parent company Phosphate Holdings, the US diammonium phosphate producer said on Friday.

Board of directors member James Sherbert will replace Jones on an interim basis, effective immediately, said Phosphate Holdings.

Jones has been CEO of the companies since 2008. Prior to that, he served as president of Phosphate Holdings from 2004 to 2008.

Board Chairman Thomas Jagodinski said the company appreciated the leadership of Jones, especially in the efforts to restore operations following the destruction inflicted in the region by Hurricane Katrina.

“Robert Jones’ long and outstanding career speaks to his keen business knowledge and leadership ability, and we appreciate the contributions he made to this company. He has provided strong direction in an industry that is very volatile,” said Jagodinski.
