LONDON (ICIS)--Melamine imports into the EU rose by 28% year on year in April and surged by 47% year on year in May, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed on Thursday.
April imports amounted to 9,244 tonnes, compared with 7,232 tonnes in the same month last year, while May's figure was 8,282 tonnes, compared with 5,649 tonnes in May 2012.
Exports out of the EU were down year on year in both April and May, by 24% and 37% respectively.
April exports were 8,816 tonnes, compared with 11,649 tonnes in April 2012, while May exports amounted to 7,007 tonnes, a fall from 11,210 tonnes in the same month last year.
Eurostat import/export data is subject to revision as more detailed information becomes available.
