LONDON (ICIS)--Imports of styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) into the EU27 from the rest of the world fell by 15% year on year in May, data from statistics agency Eurostat showed on Thursday.

This followed a 23% increase in SAN imports into the EU27 in April.

May saw a spate of public holidays across parts of Europe which caused European SAN demand to drop compared to previous months, with fewer cargoes being purchased from Asia.

South Korea is the largest importer of SAN into the EU27, helped by the Free Trade Agreement that came into force in July 2011, reducing import duty to zero.

Exports for SAN out of the EU were minimal, but dropped 56% in April year on year before increasing by 20% in May compared to the same period in the previous year.
