LONDON (ICIS)--Acetone imports into the EU from the rest of the world increased in May, while exports from the EU decreased, according to data released on Thursday from Eurostat.

Imports from the rest of the world increased by 24%, while exports decreased by 24%. The reason for the change was because of reduced operating rates in primary product phenol.

In April, year on year, imports increased by 30%, while exports increased by 55%.

In April, a major European producer was exporting to the US to supply its customers there, also because of reduced operating rates for phenol. For every tonne of phenol produced, 0.62 tonnes of acetone is made.
