LONDON (ICIS)--Europe butyl acrylate (butyl-A) spot prices rose further on Wednesday, amid ongoing tightness, sources said, to reach a 20-month high.

Prices are at €1,650-1,750/tonne ($2,171-2,303/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe).

The last time butyl-A spot prices were at this level was in November 2011.

Availability has been limited since June.

BASF implemented force majeure on butyl-A on 13 June because of production problems at its 110,000 tonne/year Ludwigshafen facility in Germany. It was lifted on 21 June, and sales controls were put in place until further notice.

Dow Chemical began a four-week turnaround at its 80,000 tonne/year acrylic acid (AA) plant in Boehlen, Germany, two weeks ago. The outage is also affecting its 40,000 tonne/year butyl-A production.

AA and its esters are used in the manufacture of various plastics, coatings, adhesives and elastomers, as well as floor polishes and paints.
