CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--Brazilian energy producer Petrobras said a malfunctioning valve caused the 19 July explosion at its Nansei Sekiyu refinery in Okinawa, Japan, the company said on Friday.
The refinery had been under maintenance since 2 July and was preparing to resume operations when the accident happened, the company said.
Operations at the refinery will remain suspended, the company said.
The blast caused no deaths, injuries or harm to the environment, Petrobras said.
