SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Lotte Chemical plans to shut its 250,000 tonne/year No 1 paraxylene (PX) unit at Ulsan on 5 August, a company source said on Thursday.
The company initially planned to reduce operating rates at its PX facilities in mid-June.
“The shutdown is due to poor economics and will be for an unspecified period,” the source said.
Lotte Chemical will continue to operate its other 525,000 tonne/year PX unit located at the same site at 100% of capacity, the source added.
