TORONTO (ICIS)--ExxonMobil’s Canadian Imperial Oil affiliate expects to begin operating its fuel depot at Dartmouth in Canada’s eastern Nova Scotia province later this year, the global oil major said on Thursday.

Imperial Oil is converting its refining site at Dartmouth into a depot after failing to find a buyer for its 88,000 bbl/day refinery there.

Imperial said that the closure of the Dartmouth refinery and the site’s conversion into a fuel depot would improve the competitiveness of its downstream business.

Imperial still has two refineries in Ontario and one in Alberta. It also has petrochemical operations in Sarnia, Ontario.
