US automobile sales increase 15% year over year in July

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US automakers sold almost 1.32m passenger cars and light trucks in July, a nearly 15% increase from the 1.15m vehicles sold during the same month in 2012, Autodata said on Thursday.

In its monthly report, Autodata said year-to-date sales of cars and light trucks were over 9.14m, up 8.4% from 8.43m during the same period last year.

For July 2013, passenger car sales increased nearly 13% to 657,000 vehicles, while light trucks rose over 15% to 658,000 units.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) estimates that each automobile contains an average of $3,297 (€2,473) worth of chemicals such as acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), nylon, polycarbonate (PC) and others.
