NEW YORK (ICIS)--Nalco Company’s Freeport, Texas, plant leaked ethylene oxide (EO) on 1 August because of a gasket failure on a gauge, according to filings with the National Response Center (NRC) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on Friday.
The duration of the gasket failure was unknown at the time of the filings, but the system was immediately blocked, according to TCEQ.
Nalco could not be reached for comment.
EO is a feedstock in the production of ethylene glycols.
