SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Lijin Petrochemical is planning to bring on stream a 150,000 tonne/year methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) unit at Dongying in Shandong province this October, a company source said on Wednesday.

The company will self-supply feedstock gas for the MTBE unit, added the source.

Part of the MTBE output from the plant will be kept for captive use to blend gasoline, and the rest will be supplied to the market, according to the source.

The company’s 80,000 tonne/year MTBE unit at the same site is under maintenance and is scheduled to be restarted in the middle of August.

All of the MTBE output from the 80,000 tonne/year MTBE unit is for captive consumption.

“We also plan to start up a 300,000 tonne/year MTBE plant next year. The MTBT output from the unit may be used for chemical production,” said the source.

Lijin Petrochemical has a crude distillation unit capacity of 6.5m tonnes/year. It also operates a 2.2m tonne/year residual fluid catalytic cracker (RFCC) and a 500,000 tonne/year gas fractionation unit.
