US PET exports decline 16% year on year in June - ITC

NEW YORK (ICIS)--June US exports for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fell 16% year on year, according to trade data made available on Thursday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

June PET exports declined by 4,662 tonnes to 24,255 tonnes from 28,917 tonnes in June 2012.

Month on month exports fell 4% from 25,311 tonnes in May 2013 to 24,255 tonnes in June 2013.

In comparison, US PET imports increased 7% year on year from 44,434 tonnes in June 2012 to 47,527 tonnes in June 2013. Month on month PET imports increased 10% from 43,379 tonnes in May 2013 to 47,527 tonnes in June 2013, according to ITC.

PET is used in plastic drinking bottles and in textiles.

PET producers in the US include DAK Americas, Indorama, Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) and Nan Ya Plastics.
