HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acetone exports in June dropped 40%, partly on less shipments to Mexico and Brazil and also fewer cargoes to smaller destinations, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
June exports totalled 9,597 tonnes compared with 16,079 tonnes a year ago.
Half of the drop came in fewer shipments to Mexico and Brazil, which received a combined 6,630 tonnes in June, compared with 9,880 tonnes in the same month of 2012.
Another contributor to the decline came in shipments to countries ranked outside the top 10 acetone export destinations, which received 4,040 tonnes in June 2012 but only 112 tonnes in June this year.
Major US acetone producers include Axiall, Haverhill Chemical, Honeywell, INEOS Phenol and Shell Chemical.
