SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) has reduced operating rates at three of ethane-based crackers in Map Ta Phut following an outage at a gas separation unit at the site, a company official said on Friday.
The three crackers have a combined nameplate ethylene capacity of 1.86m tonnes/year.
Operating rates at the crackers have been adjusted down from full capacity previously, the source said, without providing the exact run rates. The reduced run rates may remain for the duration of the outage of the gas separation unit.
Gas separation plant No 5 operated by PTTGC’s parent, PTT, was shut on 14 August following a lightning strike, with the shutdown expected to last up to five months.
PTTGC’s I-4 No 1 cracker, which is naphtha-based, is currently shut for a 44-day turnaround since 1 August, the official said. The cracker has a 515,000 tonne/year capacity.
