The European dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) August reference contract price rolled over from July on Friday, in line with upstream paraxylene (PX) and methanol contracts.

The DMT price range is unchanged at €973-1,014/tonne ($1,297-1,352/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), according to ICIS.

Monthly paraxylene (PX) increased by €8/tonne to €1,100/tonne from June to July, and rolled over in August.

Despite a $30/tonne increase in Asia, to $1,440/tonne CFR Asia, macroeconomic uncertainty and weak derivative offtake kept European consumers wary this month.

Quarterly methanol rolled over at €390/tonne FOB (free on board) Rotterdam from the second to the third quarter.

Invista's DMT plant in Gersthofen, Germany, is on schedule to permanently shut down in September, because of competition from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and PTA-based polymers.
