LONDON (ICIS)--The EU’s emulsion styrene butadiene rubber (E-SBR) imports from the rest of the world increased strongly in June compared to the same period a year earlier, data from statistics agency Eurostat showed on Monday.
Imports more than doubled to 3,576 tonnes compared to 1,572 tonnes during the same month a year earlier.
Exports were also up year on year, rising 4% in June to 15,160 compared to 14,595 tonnes in June 2012.
Imports rose because Asian E-SBR spot prices were cheaper, which opened the arbitrage window between the two regions.
In addition, imports from Russia have continued to compete strongly with western-European E-SBR prices despite weak demand.
Eurostat import/export data is subject to revision as more detailed information becomes available.
